Stellenbosch University (SU) is a public research university located in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
Stellenbosch University (SU), dating back to 1685, is the oldest university in South Africa and the oldest extant university in Sub-Saharan Africa, and received full university status in 1918.
The University is located in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands, known for their picturesque beauty and unique environmental capital.
It is one of the leading universities on the African continent, also acknowledged for the highest scientific publication output per academic staff member in South Africa.
Stellenbosch University designed and manufactured Africa’s first microsatellite, SUNSAT, launched in 1999.
The University is overseen by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) under the National Government of South Africa.
